Tingting Kang
Tingting is a researcher at the Climate + Co-Centre, where they work on the project Using AI to Integrate Environmental Data. Their work focuses on improving how complex environmental datasets can be combined to support better decision-making.
In many areas of environmental science, data comes from a wide range of sources that do not easily align. This can result in gaps or biases that limit understanding. Tingting’s work addresses this challenge by applying advanced approaches from Artificial Intelligence, particularly causal AI and counterfactual reasoning. Rather than simply identifying patterns, these methods aim to understand cause-and-effect relationships and explore how outcomes might change under different conditions.
As part of this project, Tingting is contributing to the development of new tools that can handle data varying across time and location in practical scenarios. This includes adapting models such as Bayesian Causal Forests to work effectively with environmental datasets.
A key aspect of their role is working with stakeholders to ensure that the methods developed are relevant and usable in real-world contexts. The ultimate aim of their research is to provide clearer, more reliable insights into environmental change, helping policymakers and practitioners make informed decisions about climate, ecosystems, and water management.
